Dorus Mhor
Dorus Mhor celebrates the artistry of fine textiles through its application to jewellery. Using the finest silks and combining them with sterling silver and 14kt gold-filled links, Dorus Mhor creates unique and bold jewellery pieces. Growing up in a small town situated close to the Scottish border famous for weaving the Chanel tweeds, she was taught from a young age to sew by her dressmaker mother. With artisanal craftmanship in her blood, founder Elizabeth Bloom later graduated with a Fine Arts degree in sculpture. She launched Borus Mhor in London in 2011, whereafter Elizabeth went on to spent three years in Chicago before moving to her husband’s home, Cape Town. It is here where fine-art sculptor Elizabeth Bloom conjures her exquisite tactile gems using carefully selected fabrics over structured shapes such as wooden beads and metal tubes. It is, in fact, a craft that seems to have been predestined for this prescient maker who has a silversmith and weaver for grandfathers, and a dressmaker for a mother. With each piece of jewellery a singular work of art, Dorus Mhor truly pays homage to the meaning of the Gaelic phrase at the root of its name - it's an open door to imaginative creation.
