One sunny day in 2016, sport-loving Saffas Nick Dreyer and Ross Zondagh were watching the opening ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, and feeling rather uninspired by the SA kit. Little did they know that their impromptu fashion brainstorm that day would lead to an iconic South African brand. VELDSKOEN was initially inspired by traditional leather vellies, but reimagined with brightly coloured soles and laces that set the scene for an exciting footwear brand that has reinvented the classic bosveld look and injected it with some sassy Mzanzi swagger. Today, VELDSKOEN has grown from a little internet shop to a globally recognised brand renowned for their thoughtfully designed, locally crafted leather shoes and accessories that are hand-cut, sewn, and finished from buttery, full-grain leather in the traditional way by some of the finest shoemakers in the country. Made to move and inspire, the footwear components that make up VELDSKOEN are locally sourced in order to reduce carbon footprint and support as many South African suppliers as possible. Every shoe is then made by Hopewell Footwear artisans - a third-generation, locally-owned family business, and member of [fairfactories.org](http://fairfactories.org/).
