Karin's process of designing a new collection starts with deep introspection, often meaning she needs to take a seasonal break from all social media and external influences. This allows her to design from a place that is genuine and true to her. Dear Rae has become a respected and sought-after brand, especially in the artisanal jewellery circles, as Karin and her team were one of the very first of their kind in Cape Town. “Is that a Dear Rae?” is a question often asked. Easily recognisable and exquisite collections - it’s hard not to fall in love with their pieces. Founder Karin Rae Matthee launched the brand in 2010 after completing a BA Fine Arts degree and spending a semester at the Pforzheim Hochschule in Germany. Her passion for empowering and employing local South Africans has been a driving force in the business, and Karen strives to produce consciously. The team is committed to working as sustainably as possible within their industry - from taking great care to ensure diamonds are conflict-free to recycling and refining metals. Dear Rae's inspiring, yet functional jewellery comes to life via simplistic forms and natural lines. Inspired by the beauty of life, carefully translated into precious metals and gemstones, each piece is sure to take your breath away.
